AmeriCorps Member Service Opportunity
Full-Time Position
1700 hours in 10 months
Chinese Community Center and Local Initiatives Support Corporation are seeking a full-time AmeriCorps member to serve as an Employment Services Coordinator. The candidate will ideally begin service on October 1, 2016 and serve a minimum of 1700 hours though the end of his/her term on July 31, 2017.
ORGANZIATION BACKGROUNDS
The mission of CCC is to bridge East and West by enriching families with educational, cultural, and social service programs. CCC was founded in 1979 as a Chinese language and cultural heritage school to provide education and support to immigrants who had recently arrived in the United States. CCC soon began expanding its programming to offer comprehensive, wraparound services that addressed the needs of Greater Houston residents from any racial or ethnic group and at any stage of life—from infants to the elderly. The organization received its first public funding in 1989, became a United Way of Greater Houston agency in 1991, and now serves more than 10,000 people from diverse backgrounds each year.
CCC is organized into five core programs, each with its own budget and staff. These programs include the (1) Early Learning Center, an early childhood education program that is accredited by the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC); (2) Youth program, an out-of-school-time enrichment program; (3) Workforce Development, which includes the FOC and bridge program, as well as Housing Counseling and Citizenship Assistance; (4) Senior & Social Services, which helps meet the needs of older adults, adults with disabilities, and people from low- or moderate-income households through such services as the Benefits Enrollment Center, Senior Community Service Employment Program, and Caregiver Education; and (5) Language program, which offers classes on Chinese language and cultural heritage and on English as a Second Language. CCC also has an Admin department that includes such functions as operational management, human resources, building maintenance, community outreach, accounting, and fund development.
Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is dedicated to helping community residents transform distressed neighborhoods into healthy and sustainable communities of choice and opportunity — good places to work, do business and raise children. LISC combines corporate, government and philanthropic resources to help community-based organizations revitalize underserved neighborhoods. This strategy extends to the LISC AmeriCorps program where we support placing AmeriCorps Members with local non-profit partners. Members assist in efforts to revitalize underserved neighborhoods across America and create vibrant places for people to live, work, and play.
