Cantonese Interpreter in Los Angeles, CA (Work-at-Home) 

Location: Home-office in USA 

LanguageLine Solutions is seeking bilingual English - Cantonese speakers with knowledge of healthcare, insurance and customer service terminology to serve our growing client base. Candidates will work from the comfort of their home-office as a Cantonese - English 

Interpreter. Paid training is available for those candidates who demonstrate a good command of the English and Cantonese languages. Interested candidates must attend a five (5) days paid virtual or onsite training. 

Summary of Position 

The Cantonese Interpreter is responsible for handling calls on demand, and renders the meaning of conversations between the Cantonese 

and English speakers. The interpreter helps break the communication barrier between a Cantonese speakers and a non Cantonese speaker, who is a professionals in any of the wide range of industries LanguageLine Solutions serves. The interpreter processes information quickly, concisely and recognizes sensitive cultural differences and she/he is professional and courteous at all times. The interpreter uses appropriate terminology and understands common industry procedures and practices. 

Location 

This position is a remote position; candidates need to be located in the United States. 

An interpreter receives calls routed to their home-office. It is essential to ensure you have a quiet and secure home-office environment. 

The interpreter must have a dedicated analog or digital telephone connection plus a head-set.

Physical Requirements:

The hiring process will include written and audio language assessments. The job of the interpreter requires the employee to work in front of a computer screen, to operate a computer keyboard and mouse and to remain in a stationary position at least 50%- 90% of the time. 

Major Responsibilities 

The interpreter must:

Receive client-calls and answer in a professional manner 

Render correct concepts and meanings 

Provide clear and accurate renditions with no additions or omissions 

Employ good customer service and clear enunciation, pronunciation, pleasant and professional voice as well as polite forms of expression 

Remain calm during emergency calls 

Be punctual and available during scheduled work hours 

Ensure access to the Internet for work related electronic communication 

Take all required LanguageLine Solutions training to learn interpretation protocol 

Qualifications 

Native or near-native fluency in Cantonese and English 

Ability to explain cultural concepts to avoid miscommunication, and to act as a cultural broker 

Ability to concentrate, stay detached from the conversation, and remain neutral and objective at all times while following client's instructions closely 

Completion of high school education
